May is National Community Action Month—a time to celebrate the transformative work of Community Action Agencies (CAAs) across the country. For over 60 years, these agencies have been on the front lines in the fight against poverty, offering holistic and community-centered solutions that uplift families and strengthen neighborhoods.
Community Action Agencies are rooted in the belief that local communities are best equipped to understand and address the challenges their residents face. The nationwide network includes over 1,000 agencies, serving more than 9 million individuals annually through programs that address early childhood education, energy assistance, housing support, workforce development, financial literacy, and more.
The Indiana Community Action Association (INCAA) is the state convener of the twenty-two Community Action Agencies serving Indiana. This network works to meet changing needs through data-driven approaches, like triennial community needs assessments and a tripartite board structure. These unique approaches to community work are intended to empower maximum feasible participation of those served.
The Promise of Community Action
Community Action
changes people’s lives,
embodies the spirit of hope,
improves communities,
and makes America
a better place to live.
We care about the entire community,
and we are dedicated to helping people
help themselves
and each other..
At Community Action of Southern Indiana (CASI), we work to fulfill this promise by offering programs in Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties related to early childhood education, health & wellness, housing, financial literacy, and basic needs. We’re proud to stand alongside thousands of agencies working to create lasting change in their communities. In 2025, we are celebrating our 60th anniversary year of service to the community.
This month, we honor the resilience of the people we serve and the dedication of those who serve them. Join us in raising awareness, sharing stories, and renewing our commitment to equity and opportunity for all. For more ways to join in the celebration, please follow our Facebook Page.
